Community Meeting

Dear Buffalo,

This is a short one.  In brief, I am trying to put together a proposal to present the idea   of a Community Meeting to my campus.  Fine, I accept a lack of originality on my part, but as they say, why build a better mouse trap/don't fix what's not broken/mimicry is the highest complement. Pick which ever response soothes you best.

Building Community

Johnston,

Since my last post much has changed.  The Dean of Students took a leave of absence, and during a public meeting regarding who would fill her shoes, many words were spoken to the effect that She (the Dean) was the only person who listened to the students or worked on their behalf.  All of this said in front of the Dean and VP of our campus, who by having a more complex role does not spend as much time with the students, so she is not as well known, and what she does for the campus is also not as well understood.

Creating an Environment of Inquiry

Johnston,

Last time I regaled you with my woes and sorrows, I mentioned that despite the difficulties I was noticing on campus I thought there was a lot of potential to make the best of SBS.  I ended with this paragraph:

The First of Many

hello classmates!/ no strong feelings either way

Hey guys! I don't really have any strong feeling about how we run the blog topics, so I am willing to go along with whatever the class feels is the greatest means of pursuing the strongest form of discussions in such a way (via the blog). Perhaps we can take a moment tomorrow in class, to come to some agreement.

Thoughts on Satire 4/28 Alec and Michael

Watchman- Comedian is satire of the world (within the context of the Watchman).

Danish Cartoon -- Take enemy that is terrorism and make fun of it. Softening the impact of terrorism. Countering the power that is fear.

The satire lies in Mohammad being portrayed as the extremist rather than mainstream islam.

Satirist brings a certain expectation for their audience to take a certain lens/see from their point of view.

We figured out lenses is the correct plural for lens.

Conciseness of satire.
