Johnston Alumni Recieves CoolCalifornia Small Business of the Year Award
Johnston Alumni Recieves Top "Green" Small Business Award The California Air Resources Board recently recognized several small businesses in the state for reducing their greenhouse gas emissions while cutting overhead and operational costs through "green" common-sense solutions. A series of awards were given to the companies who most effectively cut back on their energy consumption. Among these recipients was Bowman Design Group, who cut their GHG emissions by 65% and earned a "Small Business of the Year" title. The President of Bowman Design Group, Tom Bowman, is a Johnston alumni and the son of Johnston co-founder Doug Bowman. His company received this top honor after applying for a CoolCalifornia Small Business Award alongside at least one hundred other applicants. Not only did Bowman Design Corp cut their GHG emissions, but they also managed a corresponding cost savings of 30%. In response to the award Bowman stated, "The business case for going green is stronger than most business owners think. For many small companies reducing emissions simply means eliminating the wasted energy that we take for granted and pay for every day."
