I'm the same way, I do my best to remain neutral. It's hard, if you communicate with the person the other person dislikes, then you fall out of favor with them! I simple can't dislike a person, just because someone else does, I just can't. high school diploma | affordable education | diploma | distance learning diploma | ged

This fundraising effort,

This fundraising effort, named "IB A Good Samaritan" by this year's seniors, will be continued next school year by the Class of 2010. In addition to publicity in the local community in Irving, Texas, where NHP is located, we are looking at publicity through Facebook (including Pages and Causes applications) for next year. There will soon be available photos from Mrs. Mays, our librarian who traveled to Tanzania to deliver our support. ( Truth About Abs | Xbox 360 Repair Guide | Magic of Making Up | Earth4Energy )

Notes from Reunion Wanted

Hi all. I was not able to make the reunion. I could claim that I was "stuck" running my three businesses in North Carolina and writing two more books, but the truth is my wife kept me locked up (afraid I wouldnt make it back home)...

By email today I received a nice set of 500 Picasa pics from the Reunion, but sadly none had any notes as to who was in the pics or what the specific subject matter was for each. Funny, after 40 years, none of the people I might know are recognizable. Just like me they all have gray hair and wrinkles!  Could someone publish a "register" of who attended and their class years?

I had a nice exchange originate from this forum with John Ruark, from the class of '73. Like me, he was one of the first freshmen at JC.  Would be fun to catch up with a few folks if anybody from the first year gets this.  Anybody hear from Jim Lakehomer?  If you have some sort of notes about who was in attendance, would be nice to receive.

Best regards, David Rogers

P.S. -- Does anyone know that the buffalo is really hard to write "through" because he covers up what you are writing in these comments?

footage from the Renewal Dance

Buffalo!

If anybody has any quality footage from the Renewal Dance on Saturday night, I would love to get a copy and permission to stick it up on one of our many web sites.

Quality: SD is fine, steady shot is prefered (tripod or really great I.S.), pretty good audio would be key.

Even if it's not all that great, I'd love to see it.

Thanks!

Confused

Is this technically where students should be posting self study feedback? I think that sending the link might help bridge the understanding gap. I did mention in APC I wasn't quite getting the whole website thing. Sorry!

Feedback

Yes, Stephanie. You got it. Just hit "reply" to Deb's message.

Johnston Self Study--Student Voice Here

Hi everyone--As you may know, we will take a significant amount of time during the next (Nov. 18) community meeting to survey you, the student, about your Johnston experiences.  Please bring paper and computers to survey eachother.  In the meantime, if you would prefer to think about the questions or write about your experiences online or ahead of time, here are the questions/prompts.  This is a way to contribute your voice to the 10-year self study, a historical and incredibly valuable document...

This is a descriptive (text-based) survey that we want to include in the Johnston Self-Report, a document the describes who we are, what we've been doing for the last ten year, and what we need to succeed.  Your input necessary and valued.

Why did you choose Johnston?

Has Johnston fulfilled your expectations? Why/why not?

How is Johnston an intentional community?

How does it feel to be left out of the community?

How does Johnston community membership help to facilitate growth as: a student, an individual, a community member?

What does it mean to take control of your education?

What are the problems with Johnston community?

What are some rewards of Johnston community membership?

How do use of our space affect our community?

What’s Johnston’s impact on the greater U. Redlands community?

Please describe an experience that you had with Johnston that has impacted you the most.

Are there any resources that the Johnston Center needs to acquire in order for you to be more successful? Please consider physical (things), academic (classes/professors), and other resources in your answer.

40th reunion

I'm there!  When?   Is there a planning group developing?  My time is limited -but

would be happy to give input. Was involved with forming the 20th Johnston

reunion.

40th class reunion propositions

Concerning the 40th reunion, here are a few contributions:
-          support for themes mentioned
o       Pilgrim Pines reunion. The 40th anniversary could be the occasion to propose a “re-founding” of the Johnston College through re-creating the conditions that were proposed when we founded the Johnston concepts.
o       A reunion is a time to meet. This needs to be organized and made possible by creating cross generational opportunities to meet. Example: organize a diner where each one picks in a pot at the entrance a character from a famous couple. From 16 to 40 pick in one basket, from 40 on in another (age chosen so that it divides the group in two). Romeo sits with Juliet, Jolly jumper next to Lucky Luke, Obelix next to Asterix … each paper has the name of the character in bold and the name of his mate in italic. People then sit around the tables with their mates.
During the dinner, each couple (or individual?) that wants to could address the group with the proposition. Prepare 10 themes to be included ing the invitation to the event so persons can have a focus for their contributions and we as a community can orient those that would “go out of focus”. Example :
§         A theme or issue to address during a community meeting (one needs to be held) allowing each to think about the subject while eating and prior to the community meeting.
§         A contribution of a thought, poem, speech, …
§         A significant memory of your time at Johnston
§         An example of how the Johnston College principles of education applied to your professional life, to your personal life, to your social life.
§         Describe the Johnston College legacy for you
§         Etc…
o       Multimedia presentation to be built to illustrate both JC throughout the years (see Paul Corneil) and build one (a project?) to collect material from alumni illustrating JC’s influence in their lives.
o       A dance so people can meet, express themselves, and share music from the last 40 years.
o       Off site excursions in small groups. This allows again a way of meeting others while sharing a half day visit: Joshua park, Big Bear, Hot springs, walk in the wilderness, … led by a student or alumni who takes charge of the group.

I really like these ideas!
